The Power of a Smile
“A cheerful heart brings a smile to your face; a sad heart makes it hard to get through the day”
Many people do not realize what the potential a smile can do. It can heal emotional pain, and it can remove physical pain. When you smile at another person you not only let them feel that they are wanted, accepted and appreciated, but that smile can also offer encouragement too.
Kim Meeder, in her book, Fierce Beauty, Choosing to Stand for What Matters Most, wrote of a 15-year old who was taken away from her home to a new environment and to a new school. No one looked or spoke to her for two whole months. She was hurting inside and thought the only way to stop hurting was to end her life. She said to herself, "No one will know I died because no one knew I lived!"
One particular day a boy crossed her path, knocking off a school bag she was carrying. As she was gathering the books, she noticed a blonde girl gazing at her from a distance and smiled. She said to herself that she would wait for one more day if someone still noticed me. Sure enough the same girl showed up and smiled.

They became good friends.
You would never know that your smile could save a life of another person. That one simple smile has the power to calm fear, insecurity, hurt, and anxiety. A single smile has the power within it to change the world because smiles can be shared. Smiles are contagious, so when you smile at another person, you pass all the wonderful benefits of smiling on to that person.
Look yourself in a mirror. When you smile, you look good. An anatomical adage states that it takes something like 43 muscles to frown but only 17 muscles to smile. And you know what, I want to quote what an author Lee Mildon said, "People seldom notice old clothes if you wear a big smile.”
People around you will wonder what you are “up to.” It is fun to keep people guessing.
Smile! You can surely brighten your day.
